Lewis' novel Till We Have Faces. Though a work of fiction, its author was truly inspired by God. Furthermore, the novel in many ways is a critique of liberalizing Christianity, and is a clear rebuttal to what we now call liberal theology.

I read this novel about once every two years, when I am really dry. If I had not, I might have been more susceptible to liberal arguments, and it has taught me to be cautious in saying such things as 'that story isn't true...it's a metaphor for something else.'

Even when it comes to the Genesis account of Adam and Eve, which I'm sure represents a more universal humankind rather than a particular two persons, I hesitate to ever say 'it could never have happened this way,' and my toes curl-up inside my shoes a little when I hear orthodox colleagues (who mean well, and with whose point I about 98% agree) say things such as this.

When I always tried to rationalize, my faith dried. When I stopped trying to put limits on God, I've never felt closer to Him. Liberal Christianity needs to stop limiting a limitless God, and if they cannot (because of pride, fear of obscurity, or ignorance), then I'm not sure they deserve to exist.

God's blessings to +Lawrence, +Iker, and you!The Reformed Reinhardthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12117578058106157744noreply@blogger.com
