Sure the pastors preached 'bible based' messages, but if you were to compare the money and energy spent producing a twice a week service to its outreach to the community and care for the discouraged, even within its own community!, the balance would be tipped against its favour. Neither did I find this to be idiosyncratic to this megachurch.Tony Hunthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15364659700029347895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9555343.post-1529173383220991372008-04-01T08:43:00.000-07:002008-04-01T08:43:00.000-07:00'One very large thing for which I would fault mega...'One very large thing for which I would fault megachurches is their tendency to treat people--expecially pastoral staff and their gifts--as mere commodities to be used when they are helpful and discarded when they cease to be so.'

Dean Munday - this was certainly my experience when I worked at a mega-church. And I think it's so very sad when people are not the priority. The size of the church enables them to do great ministry... but the size of the church also seems to necessitate more business-like structures that are not people-first or, better yet, Christ-first, and it's people who always pay the price for the corporate. And, when you leave, there's a cursory goodbye, and then the moment you leave, they forget you were there. Heartbreaking, indeed. Thanks for giving us a moment to think of it - and to pray for them!

Stephaniestephseefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10651078191088887064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9555343.post-85729958953385468692008-03-31T07:07:00.000-07:002008-03-31T07:07:00.000-07:00Great, very balanced, post on the whole megachurch...Great, very balanced, post on the whole megachurch issue, Robert. Thanks for that.

Blessings to you and everyone at Nashotah. I still think of my weeklong retreat there in June 05 with great thanksgiving. And I hope to come back!

Craig HigginsAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08426395921851423962noreply@blogger.com
